Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is an upgraded re-telling of Dragon Ball Super, not a sequel. It premiered in Japan on October 11, 2026 and streams in the US on Crunchyroll and Hulu (from October 11) and Netflix (from October 17). Outside the US, Crunchyroll has the widest reach, and Netflix covers "select regions". Check your country before paying for anything.

What exactly is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus?

Toei describes it as an "enhanced" edition of the 2015 Dragon Ball Super anime. Producer Akio Iyoku said the story has been reconstructed, with new and redrawn cuts, re-rendered footage, and new dubbing, score and sound effects. The story opens where Super opened: Beerus, the God of Destruction, wakes up after the battle with Majin Buu and goes looking for a "Super Saiyan God".

New to the character? Beerus is the cat-like God of Destruction who sleeps for years at a time, gets bored easily, and is far stronger than anything Goku has faced up to the end of Dragon Ball Z. He travels with his attendant Whis, and his arrival is what opens up Super's bigger, multi-universe setting. He's also funnier than his job title suggests, which is a big part of why the arc works.

If you watched Dragon Ball Super in 2015, the big change is presentation. The original's early episodes were notorious for uneven animation, and this project exists largely to fix that.

Where to watch Dragon Ball Super: Beerus

Region Service Start date Notes
Japan Fuji TV; Prime Video, U-NEXT Oct 11 Streaming 30 min after broadcast
United States Crunchyroll Oct 11 Subtitled
United States Hulu Oct 11 Hulu hasn't said if it streams elsewhere
United States Netflix Oct 17 Netflix

Our tip: if you already pay for Crunchyroll, that is the simplest option, since it has the simulcast. If you only have Netflix, you will be a few days behind Japan. Dub availability differs by service and language; we could not confirm a full English dub schedule as of November 1.

Should you watch Beerus or the original Dragon Ball Super?

Opinion, from someone who sat through the 2015 run:

  • New to Dragon Ball Super? Start with Beerus. It is the same story, presented better, and it is what everyone is talking about this season.
  • Seen the original? Watch the first two episodes. If the upgraded fights and re-done animation are your thing, stay. If you only care about plot, nothing here is new.
  • **Seen the films Battle of Gods and Resurrection 'F'?** Those cover the same events as the opening arcs of Super. Beerus is a third telling of the Beerus story, so expect déjà vu.

Where does it fit in the Dragon Ball watch order?

Order Title
1 Dragon Ball
2 Dragon Ball Z (or Dragon Ball Z Kai)
3 Dragon Ball Super: Beerus (or the original Dragon Ball Super)
4 Dragon Ball Super: Broly (film)
5 Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero (film)

Dragon Ball GT sits outside this main path and Dragon Ball Daima is a separate side story. Both are optional.

Watching from Japan

If you live in Japan, as we do, the options are different from the rest of the world. The broadcast is Fuji TV, Sundays at 11:15 p.m., and Prime Video and U-NEXT stream each episode 30 minutes after it airs (12:15 a.m. JST). Crunchyroll and Netflix catalogues in Japan don't mirror the US ones, so don't assume what works in the US works here. If you already pay for Prime Video, that's the simplest legal option.

What's different from the 2015 version?

Toei hasn't published a scene-by-scene list, so here's only what's officially stated, plus our expectation (labelled):

How many episodes will it have?

Not announced. Reports around the reveal said the project would adapt more than one arc, but we could not confirm an episode total or arc list from Toei. For comparison, the original Dragon Ball Super ran 131 episodes from July 2015 to March 2018. We will update this post once Toei confirms.

Why One Piece fans noticed

Beerus took the Sunday-night Fuji TV slot that One Piece had, because One Piece now airs in two cours per year and is on a break until 2027. More on that in our One Piece watch guide.

For everything else airing right now, see the Fall 2026 anime season guide.
