Shangri-La Frontier Season 3: Release Date, Time & Where to Watch

Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 premieres on Sunday, January 10, 2027, at 5:00 p.m. JST on MBS, TBS and 26 affiliated stations in Japan, and Crunchyroll will stream it outside Japan. It runs for two continuous cours, roughly six months of weekly episodes without a mid-season break. The exact episode count, Crunchyroll's release time and any English dub haven't been announced yet.

If you watched Seasons 1 and 2, this is the same team, same cast and the same Sunday-evening slot. Here's everything confirmed so far.

Shangri-La Frontier Season 3 at a glance

Jargon check: a cour is a TV block of about three months, usually 11 to 13 weekly episodes. "Two continuous cours" means the season runs straight through from January into summer, instead of splitting into two halves with a gap in between. Seasons 1 and 2 also ran two cours each.

What time does Season 3 air?

The Japanese broadcast is Sundays at 5:00 p.m. JST. Converted for January (no daylight saving in the US or Europe at that time):

Crunchyroll streamed Seasons 1 and 2 as they aired in Japan, but it hasn't published the Season 3 streaming time yet. Until it does, treat the table above as the earliest possible time, not the Crunchyroll time.

Our take (opinion): a Sunday 5 p.m. network slot is a vote of confidence. A lot of anime in Japan airs late at night, so an early-evening slot on MBS (based in Osaka) and TBS puts the show in front of a much broader TV audience than a typical game adaptation gets.

Where to watch Shangri-La Frontier Season 3

Crunchyroll's catalogue differs by country, so check that the show is listed in your region once the season starts. To catch up, Seasons 1 and 2 were both streamed by Crunchyroll, and Season 2 has an English dub there.

Who's making Season 3

The core team is back, with one new name in the director's chair:

• Studio: C2C
• Chief director: Toshiyuki Kubooka (director of the first two seasons)
• Director: Hiro Ōki
• Assistant director: Naoki Kotani
• Series scripts: Kazuyuki Fudeyasu
• Character design and chief animation director: Ayumi Kurashima
• Music: MONACA
• 3D CG: Heartbeat

The Season 2 voice cast returns. The new key visual's tagline is "Konton ga Hazeru" ("Chaos erupts").

Timeline: how we got here

What is Season 3 about? (light spoiler warning)

Light spoiler for the Season 3 opening, nothing past episode 2: according to Anime News Network's NYCC report, Season 3 picks up right where Season 2 stopped and opens with a team-based game tournament, with Oikatzo calling in a favor from Sunraku and Arthur.

If you're new: Rakurō Hizutome is a high school student who seeks out badly made games to beat, until he's drawn into the VR game Shangri-La Frontier, where he plays the way he learned on broken games: min-maxing and skipping the prologue. You'll want to start from Season 1, since Season 3 continues straight on.

Also our take: a six-month run with no gap is good news for this series. Its best moments are long boss fights that need room, and two straight cours means no half-year wait in the middle. The director change is worth watching, but with Kubooka still chief director, Kurashima on character design and MONACA on music, it should look and sound like the show you know.
